How an Arizona Fire Department Got New P25 Radios Without Grant Money

With the millions of things that emergency responders have to worry about, having clear and reliable communication while on the job should be the last thing they fret over.

That’s why buying two-way radios which meet the P25 CAP standard is a must. The problem is, the federal grant money to buy them is all but gone – and these P25 two-way radios are much more expensive than regular ones.

That was the dilemma facing one Arizona municipality whose fire department needed P25 radios, but was being quoted outrageous prices of up to $5,000 per radio by Motorola salesmen.

They simply could not afford the amount of radios they needed at those prices.

Until they found us.

“You don’t need to spend a fortune for your P25 two-way radios.”

When this was communicated to the fire chief, the sense of relief was palpable – but he still had his doubts.

Motorola had so thoroughly entrenched itself with government officials nationwide over the years that it was practically the only brand anyone knew, capturing an estimated 80 percent of the market. So when we started talking about RCA, he was a little skeptical at first.

To convince him to switch, we programmed a couple of our RCA RPX4500 radios to work with his existing ones and shipped them off the same day for him to test them out as loaners.

Flawless operation at the best price

When he saw how flawlessly the RCA radios worked with his current setup, and how these were actually louder and sounded clearer than the comparable Motorolas, he was hooked. All we had to do was talk price and seal the deal.

Well, he was in for a big surprise, because we were able to put together a package which got him SIX TIMES as many radios as he could have gotten had he stuck with Motorola.

The fire department was able to get all of the new P25 radios it needed while saving a LOT of money – we are talking tens of thousands of dollars.

To this day, this fire department remains a happy customer.

All the features you need

Unlike Motorola, RCA does not put useless features in its radios to drive up costs and block out competitors. In some states Motorola installed proprietary encryption on its radios which prevented compatibility with other brands, for instance.

Instead, our radios only have the features you really need. For example, our P25 two-way radios are interoperable, as they should be, to communicate with other companies’ radios in emergency situations.

Also, the sound on the RPX4500/4600 is loud and clear, and the battery life is long. Military-grade strength ensures your radios will be around for years – and our four-year warranty reflects that (the longest in the biz!)

It’s just a great radio, and we offer it at a great price.

If you would to test a unit out, no strings attached, just call me at 877-401-3659 from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time to see if you meet our requirements. If you decide to buy, for large orders, we can even set you up with credit terms if you qualify.

I want to make switching to RCA a no-brainer and painless for you. Call me.

Two-Way Communication for Snow Patrol & Emergency Responders

dec-2014-newsletter-snow-patrol

The holiday season is the time for skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes. Although shredding the slopes can be fun for adrenaline junkies, winter sports have the potential to be very dangerous and sometimes serious injuries can occur. When this happens, snow patrols and emergency responders need reliable two-way communication to save lives and deal with hazardous conditions on the mountain.

Your snow patrols and emergency responders must use two-way radios to effectively communicate any issues they find on the slopes. The PRODIGI™ RDR3600 digital two-way radio is RCA’s durable, waterproof radio with a full keypad and display. It has emergency alarm features that snow patrollers can activate to immediately alert other team members that assistance is needed. This ensures a quick response which helps the injured get transportation to the bottom of the hill for emergency medical services.

Emergency responders and search and rescue teams can better coordinate their search efforts by using the RDR3600’s SelecTalk™ feature. This allows for private communication channels between specific users or groups without broadcasting over the entire system. The RDR3600 digital radio also has a wide coverage range that keeps your transmissions clear in rough, mountainous terrain. RCA digital radios even use 40% less power than normal analog radios. Your radio will last even longer during your search and rescue efforts without having to stop to charge your battery.

Two-way radios help your snow patrollers stay informed about changing conditions on the slopes. Any large obstructions such as fallen trees, broken equipment, and avalanche debris can be reported immediately, and the RDR3600 has an extra loud speaker so all of your team members can hear it. Plus the RCA digital radios can be equipped with chest packs and speaker mics to make it easier to use while wearing ski gear. You’ll never have to pull the radio off your belt to transmit and you won’t have to fumble around trying to press the PTT button with gloves on.

Your snow patrol and emergency response teams should be using reliable digital two-way radios to do their jobs quickly and efficiently. So give Discount Two-Way Radio a call now at 800-895-5122 and we’ll get your team the tools they need to keep your slopes and skiers safe this season.

Summit Cove: Improving the Customer Experience with Two-Way Radios

dec-2014-newsletter-summit-cove

Ok, so your ski resort or hotel has finally become a winter wonderland and it’s the busiest time of the year for your well trained staff. You’re expecting the guests to come pouring in during the holidays… But, are you prepared to give them the best vacation experience of their lives?

Not if you don’t use two-way radios to help your staff communicate better and stay coordinated.

Summit Cove, a property management company with over 300 properties in Keystone Resort Colorado, decided to switch to BR250 two-way radios because they needed instant communication for their staff to work more efficiently. Peter R., the owner of Summit Cove said, “Originally we were using phones with radio like features that worked on a network, but they were not very reliable.” The staff also realized that, “When they needed an immediate answer from another staff member, pulling up a schedule to determine which members were working, pulling up their phone number, calling and hoping they answer was not really a good option,” said Peter.

The entire Summit Cove staff switched to using RCA radios and equipment. The housekeeping, maintenance and guest services team are all using BR250 radios as well as the check-in and operations teams at both of their local office locations. To have radio coverage over such a large area, Discount Two-Way Radio helped Summit Cove design and set up multiple repeaters to cover their entire service area, allowing for real time communication with their entire operations team. Peter said, “We have recently upgraded to two repeater channels so that our Housekeeping, Maintenance and Ops teams can expedite communication without the interference of cross-talk and we have seen an increase in productivity.” He went on to say that, “We have been able to cut down the amount of time it takes us to respond to customer’s issues to under 5 minutes.” The instant communication that using two-way radios has provided now allows Peter’s staff to cut out the simple but time consuming steps they used to take to contact others for assistance and it has greatly improved how they complete their daily tasks.

The staff at Summit Cove said they were grateful to have two-way radios during a recent power outage. “We had a power outage and the Verizon Wireless tower and our radio repeater towers went out at the same time. We had over 700 guests staying with us at the time and our office phones were down so we switched to our radio to radio channels. We were able to still communicate with another area of the resort that still had internet access and we were able to talk down the road with them to give the information our front desk needed to keep checking guests in. In the hospitality industry our hourly cost of operations gets incredibly expensive if we have to sit and wait for the phones and power to start working again,” said Peter.

Peter R. and his management team have been very happy with the radios they’ve gotten from Discount Two-Way Radio because they’ve helped them provide better service to their rental clients, and served them well during emergency situations. Moreover, Summit Cove has enjoyed the relationship Discount Two-Way Radio has built with them. “Ordering is super easy. When we order new radios as our operation expands, DTWR pre-programs them and we have them in our hands in what seems like the next day or two,” said Peter. He continued on to say, “Their warranty repair work is done fast and returned back to us quickly…DTWR has been a pleasure to work with and extremely easy to communicate with!”

If your resort or hotel is looking to increase your daily efficiency and improve your customer service, give the wireless communication experts at Discount Two-Way Radio a call and they will help you immediately.

After all, happy customers are return customers!

Budget Concerns Should Never Trump Your Student’s Safety

budget-cut

On a far too regular basis, something heart-breaking will occur at a school like Newtown or Columbine. And for the next few weeks following the disaster, school boards across the nation push their school staff to get proposals for emergency equipment upgrades.

So, the principals or others staff meet with vendors and gather proposals for making their schools safer.

But then the buzz dies down a bit, the urgency fades. And when the proposals are reviewed (if they are reviewed at all) then the staff are told “it doesn’t fit into the budget, right now.”

A Community School District in Indianapolis was determined to not let this “budget vs. safety” dilemma catch them off guard when they contacted us back in the Fall of 2013.

They knew their current communication system was inadequate to help them deal with these all-too-common tragedies. Specifically, they had no way to instantly alert all their member schools simultaneously if an “incident” were to occur.

1. Their regular phone systems were too slow. Phone systems are one-to-one communication and in an emergency you have to have one-to-many communication.

2. Their current analog two-way radio systems didn’t allow users to override regular communication in order to deliver emergency warnings. And unless everyone (at every school) happened to be on the same channel, one-to-many communication was impossible.

During any school emergency, reliable communication is the key. So, the district knew they needed a better way to communicate with all its schools, and they wondered if a new radio system could be the answer.  But would they be able to get everything they needed? They had received a grant from the state for new radio equipment, but would it be enough?

That’s when they found Discount Two-Way Radio and their exceptional service team. DTWR was able to expertly design and deliver a new two-way radio system with a digital repeater and digital hand-held radios which allowed each school to have independent, on-site communications as well as an emergency override that would broadcast to all schools.  This new system instantly provided the one-to-many emergency communication that the district required.

This district now has a cost-effective digital radio setup which covers their day-to-day and their emergency needs, and best of all Discount Two-Way Radio was able to help them stay under budget.

We hope that all schools nationwide have the proper safeguards in place to handle any emergency or crisis. But if you have doubts or are not sure your current budget will allow for new safety communications equipment, just give Discount Two-Way Radio a call at 800-895-5122 and we will help you create a safer, more secure campus today. No budget is too small when it comes to the safety of every student!

Take Your Signal With You

hand-radio-signalIt’s your first day on a new jobsite. All the job assignments have been handed out and you’ve given all your work crews two-way radios so they can stay in close contact. You know that a good working two-way radio system is the key to organizing and running a successful jobsite.

But what happens a few weeks or months into the project when concrete and metal structures appear or the project has multiple floors?

Your clear, trusty, two-way radio signal suddenly becomes scratchy and transmissions are broken and not discernible. Without help, your current two-way radio signal can no longer pass through the structures that have now cropped up on your work site. As your jobsite expands you require a stronger signal with even more coverage.

When this happens a two-way radio repeater will definitely do the trick. But, purchasing an expensive system, taking the time to set it up and then having to remove it when the job is done seems like too much of a headache.

Well, new research into the wide use of repeaters in the construction industry has led to the special design of more compact, portable, self-contained repeaters that are easy to use on multiple jobsites.

Portable repeater systems such as the Rapid Deployment System (RDS) PR50 Compact are now on the market. It’s description on the website claims, “It is ready to go when you need it!” This compact repeater system is completely mounted inside a Pelican-style case that is light enough to be carried around by hand. The repeater is set up in just minutes and can be packed away just as fast, which is ideal for emergency situations or for companies who need to move around to other jobsites. Everything you need, the repeater, antenna, antenna mount and cable, are fitted into this well ventilated case which can be powered by AC, DC, battery or solar power.

With up to 50 Watts of penetrating power, having a complete “Plug and Play” compact repeater system will save you time and money, and will ensure the productivity and safety of all your current and future jobsites!
